Why the right cycling apparel makes a difference on the bike
Men's cycling apparel should be designed specifically for cycling. That means it's:
- form-fitting to minimize wind resistance,
- stretchy so it moves with you throughout the entire ride,
- functional, with pockets, anti-slip grippers and breathable fabrics
- Great-looking, so you look and feel your best on the bike.
Acelera's men's cycling apparel is designed in the Netherlands and made from high-quality fabrics. As a brand for Dutch cyclists, we know the country's often unpredictable weather, which is why our fabrics offer the best combination of light weight, stretch and durability. We don't want you to pay for a trendy brand name, but for high-quality road cycling apparel at a fair price.
The complete men's kit, from cycling jersey to cycling shorts
A complete men's cycling kit consists of at least a cycling jersey and a pair of cycling shorts with a chamois. Add cycling socks, gloves and cycling glasses, and you're ready for most rides. At Acelera, every piece of a men's cycling kit is matched in fit and color, but you can of course always mix and match.
In the Acelera line, you'll find men's cycling apparel in three levels:
- Essential: for those just starting out or riding on a tighter budget
- Intermediate: for the dedicated cyclist who rides many kilometers every week
- Professional: for those who want the very best without paying the prices of the big premium brands.
How do you put together a complete cycling outfit?
It's best to start with the cycling shorts, because for men, the shorts are the garment with the biggest impact on comfort. Choose bib shorts with a chamois that suits the length of your rides.
Then add the cycling jersey. Depending on the temperature, decide whether you need arm warmers, a wind jacket or a winter cycling jacket. Cycling socks, gloves, cycling glasses and other accessories complete the outfit.
For a sleek look, a men's road cycling kit consists of shorts and a jersey in the same color scheme. With higher-end road cycling apparel, the fabrics are also designed with aerodynamics and performance in mind, so there's less bunching and less wind resistance.
Men's cycling apparel by season
Of course, your clothing should also be adapted to the seasons and the changing weather. Here are our Acelera recommendations for each season:
- Summer (>18°C): bib shorts, short-sleeve cycling jersey, cycling socks and glasses.
- Spring and fall (8-16°C): bib shorts with leg warmers or long bib tights, long-sleeve cycling jersey or short-sleeve jersey with arm warmers, windbreaker or light cycling jacket.
- Winter (<8°C): thermal bib tights or cycling tights, thermal undershirt as a base layer, long-sleeve cycling jersey, winter cycling jacket, winter gloves and shoe covers.
So the rule of thumb is: men's winter cycling apparel calls for a layering system of three layers, each with its own function. Summer cycling apparel is as light and minimal as possible. Fall cycling apparel is the most varied category, and the season when a well-stocked wardrobe comes in handiest.
