When do you switch to long cycling shorts?
For most female cyclists, long cycling shorts are the sign that the season is getting serious. As soon as temperatures drop below ten degrees, short shorts, even with leg warmers, are no longer sufficient. Good long cycling pants keep your legs warm, protect your knees from cold wind, and still allow you to ride comfortably without becoming stiff.
Long cycling shorts are also the better choice in rainy weather during autumn or early spring. Wet leg warmers that stick to your legs are both uncomfortable and dangerous; water-repellent long pants keep you drier and therefore safer on the bike.
Thermal and water-repellent for cold weather
The thermal cycling shorts in the Acelera range are made for riding at temperatures around 0 to 12 degrees Celsius. A soft fleece interior retains heat, while the outer fabric is water-repellent and protects you against splashing water and wet roads. Not fully waterproof, but able to withstand a heavy drizzle without arriving home soaked.
The long women's cycling shorts are designed for optimal comfort, so you can pedal and move comfortably even in a cycling position. Reflective details on the front and back ensure visibility at dusk or in darkness.
Pairing long women's cycling shorts with your outfit
Long cycling shorts are best combined with a thermal base layer shirt, a long-sleeve cycling jersey, and a windproof or rain jacket as the outer layer. The layered approach is the only way to stay comfortable throughout the ride in changeable Dutch winter weather. It’s better to start with one layer too many than one too few; you can always remove extra layers and put them in your back pocket.
Also combine your long cycling shorts with cycling gloves, cycling socks, and possibly overshoes for complete protection. Check out our full range of women's accessories for all the additions you need to keep cycling even in the darkest months.
